The request came from an existing client who had just lost her mother, and her 'One' special silk saree needed to be preserved as part of an immortal family heirloom. As a concept, we decided to use a section of it to create multiple jewellery boxes for the client, her sister, and her daughter.
That was the relatively easy part. The challenge lay in execution, as this had to be a comprehensive box to carry the family's treasured jewellery. We faced limitations regarding locker sizes, drawer dimensions, and the varying sizes of rings, anklets, pendants, bracelets, and more. Each item required its section, and we had to ensure these delicate pieces wouldn’t cling together or get tangled during transit. The teak partitions had to be just right, allowing fingers to retrieve delicate earrings or rings easily.
This piece became a labour of love—handcrafting each section in teakwood. We carefully shaved off excess wood to keep the box light and subtle, rounding off all the inner edges of the micro-mouldings with delicate feminine hands in mind. The exterior of the box is also well-rounded, with walls just thick enough to hold screws, hinges, and hardware. Everything else was meticulously removed by hand.
A connoisseur’s delight, this piece is truly emotional. As heartfelt as the creation itself, we’ve priced it purely based on the actual cost. Indulge in its sentimentality.
