Teakwood vs Rosewood

Teak or 'Tectona Grandis' and Rosewood or 'Dalbergia latifolia'.

Both are some of the best Hardwoods available for making furniture or artefacts. Teak has a rich Golden to brownish color with a rich leathery aroma whereas Rosewood is dark golden to purplish brown in color with a rosy flavor. Therefore in modern day apartments Teak, because of a distinctly lighter tone wins hands down

Extremely durable, Teak wins in terms of appearance with the beautiful straight or curvaceous 'non noisy' equal vein dispersal/ distribution whereas Rosewood is closely knit, dark and noisy in appearance. Also because of a closer dispersal, Rosewood has a higher density and heavy. It is a drawback as the furniture becomes heavier and clumsy vis a vis a standard strong and optimum weighted Teakwood.

Both are equally strong, low on availability, easy to craft and expensive. However Teak edges over on the durability aspect because of its anti rot and the anti pest/termite/fungal properties , thanks to the Teak oil inside the core. It is a natural insulator and also highly resistant to pests, termites and rodents ( we remember when we opened our workshop after 2 months during Covid, while the other neighborhood manufacturing entities had damages incurred on account of rodent infestation, our place actually had an amazing leathery smell with not an insect/ pest or rodent evidence or infestation ...)

Rosewood is good for interior furniture but cannot be used for outdoor purposes. Teak is versatile and universal and good both for interiors and exterior .

In today's day and age ,it is imperative to be a Responsible citizen and hence we try to use products which are Sustainable and low on Carbon emission. Thanks to Plantation Teak variety availability and also widespread availability of Reclaimed Teakwood it is Sustainable whereas Rosewood is an endangered specie. Availability of Teak is geographically quite dispersed which makes it a low Carbon emitter.

In view of the above Teakwood or Tectona Grandis wins hands down as far as choice of Hardwood for furniture or decor is concerned .
